How to Make an Energizing Mint Tisane
/What is a tisane you ask? A French-derived term, a tisane is a restorative herbal tea. I tend to use tisane when I am referring to a tea made from fresh vs. dried herbs and nothing matches the pure flavor and abundant health benefits of a tea fresh from your garden!
Mint is best known for its digestive benefits from relieving indigestion, nausea and diarrhea to addressing bad breath. But mint is also superb when a headache comes along and for helping subdue asthma symptoms and enhance mental clarity. In addition, mint can enhance production of digestive enzymes which help the body absorb nutrients and convert fat into energy which makes it an ideal friend for weight loss.
This easy-to-make, impossible not-to-enjoy herbal tea is an ideal way to enjoy an afternoon break. For a little extra kick, I like to add in some green tea leaves but you can omit for a caffeine-free version.
Ingredients
Handful of fresh mint leaves (about 1/2 to 3/4 cup)
Two slices of lemon
One teaspoon of green tea leaves (I like Numi’s Gunpowder Green)
Two cups pure filtered water
Instructions
Add mint, lemon and green tea to a French Press or teapot.
Bring water almost to a boil. (I find almost boiling is more gentle on the fresh leaves.)
Pour water over the herb mixture and cover. Steep for 5 to 7 minutes.
Strain and serve in cups or if using a French Press, carefully press the plunger down and pour.
