Planting a Seed for the New Year
/Welcome to your new year! While it is true that many resolutions go unfulfilled, it is easy to let the cliché of “new year, new you” or the expectation of failure to prevent us from connecting to the abundant and profound universal energy for personal reflection and intention that welcomes each new year. Like a birthday, this special moment in time presents a unique lens with which to gaze at the year ahead and plant a seed or two for any change we would like to nurture in the world, in our families, in ourselves or in our communities. Let the new year give us that edge, that conviction, to give root to these seeds and be supported in our new beginnings.
Last year, I planted the seed to do more things that scare me. That seed helped me relax (kind of) into the many fears I faced starting Table Minded, beginning to educate and support others on their health journeys… as well as to zipline for the first time in Mexico, finally do a handstand at yoga and generally reshape my thinking from “that’s not for me” to “maybe that is for me.” In the middle of the year, I hung a poster over my desk to be my version of the hang-in-there kitty that reads, “Lately, so many things require such a leap of faith I don’t even bother to take my shoes off.” It was a roller coaster year but allowed me to take many falls... and make many leaps.
This year, my seed is LOVE. Like last year, I’m as uncertain as to how that will manifest as I was unaware of what last year would hold for me, for us. But I am committed to nurturing that seed like a planting that needs care, love and attention. One thing I am certain of is that my plant won’t grow in a straight line but will wind and curve, wilt and strengthen, and definitely take time to develop. I am hopeful it will bear fruit.
What kind of seed will you plant this year?
